Welcome to Whiting Indiana

Could it really be SPRING already in Whiting? Baseball teams are already playing in the new Oil City Stadium. Calumet College games are free so stop in and check out the new facilities on a beautiful spring night. New restaurants are opening and people are buzzing around town visiting our quaint shops...kickin' off the year with great sales.

When you come into town you'll drive right through Whiting's historic business district which features restaurants, antiques shops and quaint “mom and pop” stores all sitting among tree lined streets surrounded by single family homes with large porches where families sit and say “hello” as you walk by.

Whiting offers a variety of activities from dining and shopping to special events like the annual Pierogi Fest which has been featured on Oprah.com and the Food Network. If you’re a history lover, check out the gorgeous Carnegie Building which houses the Whiting Library or the Community Center given as a gift to Whiting by John D. Rockefeller. And don’t forget to catch a movie while in town. The Hoosier Theatre resides downtown and is the only remaining “movie palace” in Northwest Indiana built in 1924 and it’s interior is a “must see!”

New this SPRING...check out the newly revamped Weiner's Food on New York St. - two blocks off of 119th St.  A small family owned grocery store who's been a part of Whiting's history for years. Before you head the the beach, the park, the stadium or a day with the family in the backyard, stop in and support Weiner's.

So why not make Whiting, Indiana your next getaway or even better, your new home!
