Welcome to Whiting IndianaWinter is looming. It's just coming and we can't stop it so what's better than to embrace it and downtown Whiting does just that! Check out the calendar of events for the month of January and February when the town seems to be filled with indoor events to keep you out of the cold. The downtown is filled with small independently owned shops that would appreciate your business during the winter months. Many discounts are to be had as well as friendly smiles. The hills are alive in Whiting Park, especially when the snow hits and the sleds start rocketing down the slopes. Okay, they're little slopes but many of us remember them as mountains when we were just tikes. Stay tuned for any info about the Whiting skating rink being open this year. When we know, we'll let you know. All year long, Whiting offers a variety of activities from dining and shopping to special events like the annual Pierogi Fest which has been featured on Oprah.com and the Food Network. If you’re a history lover, check out the gorgeous Carnegie Building which houses the Whiting Library or the Community Center given as a gift to Whiting by John D. Rockefeller. And don’t forget to catch a movie while in town. The Hoosier Theatre resides downtown and is the only remaining “movie palace” in Northwest Indiana built in 1924 and it’s interior is a “must see!” Coming this Winter...the return of Flea 4 All - check our calendar of events page for that and more. So why not make Whiting, Indiana your next getaway or even better, your new home! |
